Bridal Shower Touches – Sweets and Treats

Let’s face it, one of the best parts of a bridal shower, or any party for that matter, HAS to be the food. And these hostesses didn’t disappoint – we had a huge spread of fresh fruit, coffee cake, tasty breads and of course, cupcakes. I know the most about the cupcakes because my sister Rachel enlisted the family’s help the night before – even the guys lent a hand! She found the recipe for Cookies and Cream (Oreo) cupcakes on Pinterest and adapted a frosting recipe that worked perfectly!

Bridal Shower Touches – Trusted Advice

One of my favorite parts of the shower was getting to read through the advice left for me from the guests. These women- grandmas, aunts, neighbors, friends and church family- have supported me my whole life, so getting a snippet of advice and a word of well-wishing was sweet to say the least.

Vintage Bridal Shower

While we were back in Iowa, my sister and a group of close friends and neighbors hosted me a lovely bridal shower. They went with a vintage theme and executed it to a T. Everything from the invitations to the dishes and decor had a garden tea party in mind. I feel like my sister, my Matron of Honor and mastermind behind the shower, should really be doing this series of posts, but I’ll do my best to share with you all of the creative and thoughtful touches from the shower.

Rachel created these invitations using SendOutCards – she’s an avid user and creates unique, one-of-a-kind cards for birthdays, Christmas and everything in-between! I think one of the biggest benefits of using this service is that you can upload the names and addresses to be printed directly on the postcard or envelope itself. They arrive in the mail looking clean and professional – I’m definitely going to have to give it a try after seeing how great these invitations turned out!

Adorable serving pieces

These teacups belong to our church where the shower was held – they carried out the theme perfectly and everybody loved sipping coffee from these dainty pieces!

Gorgeous flowers by Lori

The flowers were amazing. They were a gift from one of the hostesses, Jen – she had the local florist arrange fresh picked blossoms in blue Ball jars. They were stunning! I wish I would have gotten a better photo of the whole arrangement – the Ball jars have a new home in my living room and I absolutely love them!

bridal shower games

Guests could guess my age in photos from over the years - my bridesmaid Jessie got nearly all of them right!

While I may not have chosen these photos myself (braces, 80′s hair and matching flannel nightgowns to name a few), it was fun to reminisce and laugh at some really great memories.

I can’t help but smile looking back on such a fun day – I’ll fill you in on some more special touches in another post!

Memorial Day Weekend

J and I had a great Memorial Day Weekend – just the right combination of relaxing and fun! We hit up some of our favorite Milwaukee hot spots (watermelon and berry beer, anyone?) and even got to meet up with some college friends at a lake near Madison. Get J next to a body of water and he’s happy as a clam – I definitely see a lake house in our future. Ok FAR future, but a girl can wish, right?!

How was your first taste of summer?! I need to get to work planning our next adventure!

Why hello!

Wow, it has been a long, LONG time since my last post! To sum up the past few weeks: my first semester of school is officially under my belt, J’s sisters graduated, I was given a very lovely bridal shower and J and I purchased our first car together! Whew, time to slow down for a bit.

J and I had an amazing trip back home. It was incredibly busy with family gatherings and all things wedding, but we definitely found time to relax. Our road trip home started with a bang – literally. We said goodbye to J’s old ’97 Camry about 4 hours into the trip when it completely broke down in Iowa City. We ended up renting a car to get back to Omaha just in time for my ever important hair appointment… AND his sister’s graduation.

It was really nice to be back with the Creighton community. Sometimes it feels like we’ve never really left – but trying to keep up with the new graduates at the bar was a little more difficult than I last remember. :)

Here are a few snapshots from our time back in Omaha – I’ll fill you in with more highlights later this week! Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine – about time!
