8 non-toy christmas gifts your children will love

Toys traditionally top a kid’s Christmas list, but sometimes parents can have enough of the stuff. Not giving toys may sound like a Scrooge move, but I promise it can be just as fun and festive!

What a great idea! Yes, the clutter from too many toys is so annoying and of course when you try to donate it, it becomes their favorite toy! Argh!

These are great ideas! Nothing worse then filling our houses, and landfills with plastic toys that were probably made by a 7 year old in China– funny, but not funny!

I am all about gifting experiences. I love the lesson to learn a new skill idea. Last year we gave my 8 year old horseback riding lessons. She had to wait until the weather was warmer but it was so worth it. A membership to The Rose would be a great group gift for older children.

Experience gifts are my favorite kind of gifts! It’s not a child gift, but a few years ago my sister and I started getting my grandmother tickets to a show every year for Christmas. We take her to dinner and then go to the show. She is in a retirement community and can’t drive and absolutely loves it, especially since she doesn’t have much room (or use) for stuff anymore. Also, I cannot get over how adorable Eleanor is in those pictures! The one at the gym is my favorite!

Those are great ideas! Last year I bought my family tickets to a children’s play at the Arts Centre, bought the kids cute dresses to wear and hubby and I took them on a “date” to the theatre and out for dinner afterwards – the girls loved it! Memories seem to be way better than things. PS – thanks for stopping by my blog today!

I don’t have kids (I’m 21 and finishing college) but I am the oldest of 5 and this post made me laugh; I know my mom has said she wishes she would have thought of some of these earlier on. It is SUCH a great idea to get kids these things! My parents had the youngest 2 kids (twin boy and girl) when I was 12 and 95% of the time they wanted to play with the most basic toys like blocks, or they wanted the cardboard boxes haha. Great post!
